About Us

Japanese knotweed survey

Meet Simon and Donna, the founders of Japanese Knotweed Group Ltd

“I started work on the London Underground as a tree surgeon over 30 years ago and as part of my role, became a fully qualified and trained Japanese Knotweed specialist for them.

I then saw an opportunity to provide homeowners and businesses locally with the expertise of a professional Japanese Knotweed survey and removal service as my wife is an award-winning Surveyor.

We set up Japanese Knotweed Group Ltd to provide businesses and homeowners with both a survey and removal service at considerably cheaper prices than our larger competitors as we felt we wanted to offer value for money when people need us the most – finding what you think is Japanese Knotweed Group Ltd isn’t great, and no one likes to be taken advantage of.

Our Fast Track surveys are completed in 24hrs and our treatment plans all come with the best price guarantee – you won’t find cheaper for the same service. Our treatment plans are also very comprehensive, which is why they are all insurance backed for 10 years, giving you peace of mind.

Call us today and we’ll happily offer you our advice and provide you with a quote.

Japanese knotweed was introduced in Japan in 1825 as an ornamental plant. The plant is not unattractive but its rapid annual growth and relentless spread, allow it to easily overwhelm other garden plants. Where established as a wayside weed, native plants are also aggressively over-run.

Although it does not produce seeds, it can sprout from very small sections of rhizomes and, under the provisions made within the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, it is an offence to cause Japanese knotweed to grow in the wild. Much of its spread is probably via topsoil movement or construction traffic

  • If you are selling, it is your responsibility to check the garden for Japanese knotweed (bearing in mind that it can die back in winter). The TA6 form asks you to confirm whether your property is affected by Japanese knotweed and, where it is, to provide a management plan for its eradication from a professional company (see Seeking help from the professionals below)

  • If you are buying, the presence of Japanese knotweed will be stated in the responses to the TA6 form. This often results in your mortgage lender requiring assurances that it will be eradicated before agreeing with the funds. A management plan by a professional eradication company, backed by a transferable guarantee, is usually sufficient. It is most common for this plan to be provided by the seller before the purchase is completed

  • Whether a buyer or seller, it is also worth being proactive and checking the property for Japanese knotweed. Disputes over the identity of a plant, the failure to disclose its presence, or the lack of a management plan can result in delays, increased costs later in the buying process, or even a possible misrepresentation claim after the sale, so this approach will help avoid problems
